Sparklers Surrounding Julia

What’s with all the 3 foot long sparklers?
I wanted to show that Julia is on another plane of existence when she has a PTSD episode.
To show the intensity of Julia’s flash backs, we placed the actress Katherine Celio in a chair in my back yard and slowly dollied the camera into her face as the whole crew drew sparklers closer and closer to her face. We pumped the music of Enya into the yard and Katherine broke down crying. The scene was filmed in slow-motion. It was all very intense for everyone. This footage will be used as base layer to superimpose imagery over the sparks that flit across her face and then come into view for a moment, and then flicker out. The imagery will be Julia’s memories.

Seeking Help at Indie Go Go

This is a promotional video to raise funds for the movie “Seeking Solace.” It is put together by Director Holly Chadwick, Producer Joe Stillwater, and Director of Photography Alex Walker. Music composed by Holly Chadwick for the movie is featured in this presentation.

Holly Chadwick is now working toward a master’s degree at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. To fulfill a visual requirement for her degree, Chadwick will be directing and filming a movie she wrote called “Seeking Solace” on Whidbey Island this summer.

“‘Seeking Solace’ is about Julia, a former MP who fought in Iraq and recently came back to Whidbey Island to her civilian job at the local newspaper darkroom/photo lab,” Chadwick wrote in a release. “Her episodes of post-traumatic stress disorder intersect with the legend of the haunted darkroom and a missing persons case the newspaper is covering.”

Chadwick said she hopes the movie will provide a greater understanding of the internal struggles military people face upon their homecomings and encourage community building.

Seeking Solace is featured in the Whidbey News-Times!

As what happens in most interviews, things get twisted.
I don’t quite agree with the dramatic first two paragraphs. My grandfather was a kind and gentle man.
I never had the impression that his memories were “constantly threatened to break free from their cages.”
Oh, well. I suppose the reporter had to lead with something to grab the reader’s attention.
